Redmi Launches Cheapest 5G Phone on the Market — Redmi K30 5G
After months of leaks and teasers, Xiaomi finally unveiled the new Redmi K30 5G. At 1999 yuan ($285), it is currently the cheapest 5G smartphone on the market.
The K30 debuts the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. The new chip comes with an integrated 5G modem and provides 5G support to mid-range phones making 5G available to a larger market.
The Redmi K30 5G is also the first smartphone from Xiaomi to feature a 120Hz refresh rate display. As the terminology implies, a 120Hz display displays twice the number of images per second as an ordinary 60Hz display, giving users a smoother experience. The device dynamically adjusts frame rate between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz depending on the app and use-case to balance user experience and power consumption.Redmi ditched the pop-up camera the Redmi K20 had and opted for a punch-hole cutout that houses the dual selfie cameras with a 20MP main sensor.

Redmi has also updated the rear camera, featuring a quad camera setup with Sony’s new 64MP IMX686 image sensor. This is the first time any smartphone came bearing the sensor which is a successor of sorts to last year’s IMX586.
The battery capacity is set at 4,500mAh, with support for 30W fast charging. According to Xiaomi it takes 66 minutes for the phone to reach full charge.
The Redmi K30 5G will be available in White, Blue, Red, and Purple colors. Prices in China start at 1999 yuan ($285) for the 6GB+64GB configuration.
Redmi also released a cheaper 4G variant with virtually the same specs. The differences between the 4G and 5G variants only boil down to the camera setup, the chipset and the fast charging system, all other aspects remain identical. The 4G variant sells at at 1599 yuan ($225).
